Same-Sex Marriages Argument October 1, 2008

First, the same love-based view of marriage was used in the earlier debate religiously. Secondly , no harmful or surprising outcomes were expected; and Third,  the eventual reality was exactly the opposite.

 

The no-fault divorce experience serves to discredit the theory that marriage is based on “loving relationships,” but supports the theory that marriage is an institution designed around procreation. In this sense is a the affirmation of evidence in favor of my argument against same-sex marriage.

A Diva At 101 October 1, 2008

It is not often enough that you see good things in the news. While I was checking out the NY Times the other day I came across an article about Elizabeth Goodyear, a 101-year-old woman who may be blind but has incredible spirit. The title of the article is In Strangers, Centenarian Finds Literary Lifeline, a story about the many people that come to read to Elizabeth and neighbors that have helped her tremendously since she lives alone having outlived all her friends and family. You would assume such a woman would be nasty and bitter stuck home alone at such an old age. Not even close. She is happier then most 30-year-olds!

I was so inspired to read this tale that I emailed the link to friends and family hoping to pass a little joy their way too. 

 

One of the things that struck me was how her neighbor, Alison West, raised money to pay Goodyear’s rent and home health aide care after finding out her life savings was gone. She was also the one that posted a note that got others to come by and read when they had time. What a beautiful thing. It is so incredible to see a practical stranger do so much to help. Now what I think makes this all possible isn’t simply a kind heart it is the brilliance of Elizabeth’s soul, she is funny, she is happy, she is grateful to be alive, even at the ripe old age of 101. How often do you see elderly people wondering why they are still alive making them miserable and unkind. Not Elizabeth Goodyear. She is amazing and her spirit attracted the help and friends she has brought into her world. It makes you wish everyone could sail into old age this way and keep the vibrancy of youth in the way she does. She sits in a wheel chair, can’t see and lives alone but she is full of life. If people (of any age) could learn to embrace life this way it makes you think there would be less neglect. Others would be quick to lend a helping hand and no one would be left alone.
